This change is intended to offer the latest features and hardware support, though it may also introduce challenges with stability and dependent components. There will be less testing done with the kernel than there has been traditionally, but users will benefit from broader hardware support and other features offered by newer kernels.

The policy will apply to all future Ubuntu releases, with special guidelines for handling “Late” releases. Ubuntu’s 24.10 release, Oracle Oriole, will be the first release to benefit from this change. It is expected to ship with Linux Kernel 6.11.
